"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21
As people on Earth, our whole world is based on following your dreams. Restaurants prevail by telling us that the food that we eat will satisfy the void we feel in our heart. Clothing companies tell us that the products that they offer will make us feel beautiful, a dream of many modern women. And travel agencies, cruise lines, theme parks, and other getaway places allow us to explore the world and stretch our mind. As Americans, we soak this all up, adding to our never-ceasing list of dreams and aspirations. Some of my dreams is to dance with the Rockettes, visit Paris, and take a ride in a hot air balloon.
In Matthew 24, the disciples are just dumbfounded at the sight of the temple. It really spoke to me while I was reading this, because these disciples are actually doing life with Jesus, but they are distracted at something so temporary. It would be like if you had lunch with Elvis, but instead marveled at the Beatles.
Isn't that the way we sometimes act on Earth too?
God gave us this incredible Counselor, the Holy Spirit. Yet we get so distracted chasing the dreams of this world. Solomon in Ecclesiastes once worded it "as foolish as chasing after the wind." The wind is constantly moving, always changing. It doesn't make sense to chase something that is already moving, right?
We dream so many dreams to improve ourselves. But God, from the beginning of time wove you into His Plan, into this epic story He has for you to live out. It's going to be a story full of dreams and wishes, and if it is in God's Will it will prevail. Let your dreams go to the sky. Aspire as high as the moon. But most importantly, pray about it, assuring you its a choice made out of wisdom, humility for others, and understanding.
