***Yes I know, another science blog. But currently we are studying the Scientific Revolution in school, so its been on my mind lately.***
In the Scientific Revolution, Galileo proved that the Earth wasn't the center of the universe, but instead the sun was. People thought he was crazy because it went against their life. It ended up in execution but despite all he went through we never gave up on his goal of proving this point.
Sometimes we can be like Galileo's critics. We think the world is the center of our life. We become distracted by the things of the world and become spiritually blind to the truth. Or maybe we do know what it is, but instead we don't want to give up all these nice things and run to the Truth. The fact is that God should be the center of our lives (He is the Sun to the darkness of the world) - not just around the edges to look like a "good" Christian but the ultimately the center. We need Him. I have been down that road before- the one where I didn't put God as the center of my life and it ended up in darkness, in a pit of loneliness and God's help. We need to put God first. Lately I have been waking up a bit earlier to read a couple of Psalms and Proverbs and pray. It's been hard (Jesus never said this would be easy). There have been days where I would have loved to give up and go back to bed. But because of these hardships, I have been more willing to overcome these obstacles and glorify God until the walls fall down.
Another point I wanted to say tonight is that we are going to be persecuted for putting God for the center of our lives. Ultimately people lost without God are going to be shocked, hurt, and seeking revenge. So what do we do? We pray and ask God for words to say to them and uncontrollable love towards them. We could be persecuted for not going to that "hot party" because you are going to help the homeless. We could be persecuted for not wanting to wear an overly short dress because you made a promise to God to be pure.
The Apostle Paul writes in 2nd Corinthians 11:24-28 of his sufferings:
"24Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.
25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,
26I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers.
27I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches."
But the thing about it is that he didn't write it for just because so people would feel bad and get him sympathy cards, instead that later in that chapter that he delights in his sufferings because he knows that he's glorifying God in the process. Isn't that awesome? Think about it: would you rather die for God and live forever or suffer in the pains of the world and go on to something worse which is the lake of fire? I don't know about you but I would choose God ANYDAY. :)
The reason why they persucate you is because they have the world as their center. But however, by making God our center of our life we can spread His Love to others who don't know who God is.
Please pray this prayer with me:
Dear God,
I know that I have put other things before You and made them our center. But Father we come here willing to have you be the center of our life despite everything we may face. Lord we ask that you empty us and fill us with you. Thank you for listening and answering my prayer in ways that I couldn't even imagine. Help us keep you as the center of our lives and be able to spread it to other people who have the world as their center. All we need is You God. Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God almighty!
Amen.
