Flee from sinful desires

"But to you, man of God, flee from all of this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness." (1 Timothy 6:11, NIV)

Isn't it interesting that Paul writes the word flee and not just slowly walk away? Instead he commands us to flee from it. On a lot of drama television shows, you see people get chased in alleys. Notice how they don't just slowly walk away but in order to potentially save their lives they flee and run as fast as they can.

Isn't it the same for us? In order to save our life from complete destruction shouldn't we flee from our sinful desires? Never look back? In the Old Testament, God is commanding Lot and his wife are commanded not to look back but to flee from a town and not look back but Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19). God wants the best for us and He wants us to live this rich and abundant life. But to do that we need to be totally obedient to God and live the life that God wants us to and flee from our sinful desires. In Matthew, Jesus is speaking and He says these wise words "You can't serve two masters." We have a choice: to either live in a sinful desires and be killed by it because it will tear us apart or to flee from it and pursue a more abundant and wise life, one filled with the Spirit and completely for God? So the only thing I have to say is: What choice are you going to make?
