In the book of Mark chapter 4, Jesus tells His Disciples to go with Him on a boat. The disciples, hearing this, left the crowd behind just to follow Jesus. Anyways while on the boat, a BIG storm is occurring. In fact, the verse 37 even states "a furious squall...the waves nearly broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped." So while all of this they see Jesus sleeping on a cushion in the stern. The stern of the boat is actually defined as "the back of the boat." So while Jesus is sleeping, the disciples are going to the back of the boat (I would be running actually), and saying to Jesus "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" Then Jesus got up from His Snooze, and told the waves to stop. Wow! I can dance ballet and jazz, but to calm the waves..wow! Only Jesus, the Son of God could do that! :)
After calming the storm, Jesus asked His Disciples why they were afraid. Wasn't the Son of God on board right with them? So what did they have to fear? A lot of times I pull a disciple card. When I first left the crowd to follow Jesus, the waves of life hit me hard. Satan was trying to pull my strings and see how long I would last, and persucate me with temptations. A lot of the time I thought Jesus was sleeping in the back of the boat, ignoring me and leaving me to suffer. I was doubting God, and asking Jesus if He really cares if we drown. I felt alone, even though the King of Kings was with me all the time. But let me tell you something..Jesus can calm the storm! With one touch of His Hand He can heal the brokenhearted, cause the blind to see, and perform miracles in us everyday. In fact, He sent His Son to die on a wooden cross and rise again..He even sent His Holy Spirit to guide us through problems and tribulations. Just have faith that Jesus is on board. But most importantly of all, Jesus will give us a new attitude, and make us a new creation..one with faith. One with the understanding that even if the storms of life hit, He's already there, guiding us, protecting us, and keeping us safe in His Arms.
"But I call to the Lord, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and He hears my voice." -Psalm 55:16-17
