Independence Day. A day where freedom was rung on July 4,1776 in celebration of America being free from Britain. The hot dogs were consumed, the fireworks exploded and the pictures taken, but could it be true that while you are celebrating a national day of freedom that you yourself could be in chains?
It's easy to wear a mask, to hide who you truly are. But those tears that were shed are the same tears that God has in His Hand right now as He knocks on the door inviting you to a better life, a better promise.
Maybe you wear a mask trying to hide your addictions. Something in your life besides God is reigning your life, whether it be fitness, drugs, or self- sabotage. For a long time I was in a mask to myself. I was afraid of admitting to the world that I was depressed. I was scared of what their reactions would be once I took off the mask, that people wouldn't love me the same or worse, they'd treat me differently because they found out who I really was. I tried to be a 96 pound perfect girl, but "the perfect outfit" turned into a sackcloth of shame, and being "lean and sexy" turned into the weight of my own burdens.
But the moment you take off the mask to yourself is the moment that the climax of your life begins, excitedly ready to live for someone else and His name is Jesus Christ.
You are not another lost statistic. Out of the billion people that populates the world, God chose you to be His prized possession. He is so holy that He can stand outside of time and space, but yet so loving that He is willing to step down and love on you like no other, no matter what you've done.
There's a story in the Bible that I love: Matthew 26. Peter was told that he would deny Christ three times and then a rooster would crow. But Peter denied, saying he would be faithful to God. But, soon enough, Peter was tempted and then denied Christ. But the part of the story I love is the aftermath of it. God still accepted Peter into His Dwelling. There will never be a moment in your life where God looks at you and says "I don't want you." I bet every single day the rooster crowed, Peter felt terrible. But God forgave. God is knocking and He is ready to enter you into this dynamic passionate life. You are His pride and joy, His handiwork and a living representation of Him. No matter what you've done, God is here, ready to shower you in His life. Where sin abounds, grace will abound MUCH MORE.
Let the mask come off. Let go of everything that has caused you to be broken. God never intended for you to have to live this way, but will still make everything able to use for His glory. God has called you into this moment, and has never stopped loving you ever since. Call out to Him. He's listening and has been expecting you. ♥
"My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God"
