We all entered the almost empty audition room two months ago, not knowing what to expect but ready for what was to come. We all got cast, with different personalities, backgrounds and stories to be unfurled. For some of us, it was our 50th show, others our first. Through the course of five hour rehearsals, constant hair spraying to our Jungle hairdos, and trying to find where we exit and enter; we bonded, shared food together, told corny jokes, and had the time of our lives.
Friday night was opening night. The crowd was there, ready to be entertained as the world of Seuss was brought onto the stage. We performed, gave it our all, and enjoyed every single moment of Opening Night.
Saturday morning we all came with Starbucks in hand, ready to take on the world. Our first show started at 10 AM. As the eyelashes were being applied, face paint brushed on, and hair teased to the Horton-colored sky; we were ready to take on the day, as on Saturday we did three shows! A member of our cast paid for lunch at BJ's Eatery and took us out on a limo! We started a flash mob of "Oh the Thinks" to get more people to see the show, and on the way back we all sang "The One Feathered Tail.." and "Monkey Around."
Sunday was by far the best show of all. Before we had to get dressed for the show at 2 PM, we all sat in church for the 9 AM services and 11 AM service. Then Pastor Chuck gave an invitation to get baptized so...
Beda, playing the Sour Kangaroo, getting baptized by one of the Bird Girls. I love her so much and I am proud for her beautiful decision to follow Christ in an all-in commitment!
I wasn't expecting to, but I ended up getting baptized. Every word of the service felt like it was directed towards me. I got tired of the life I was living and I desire more than anything to fall passionately in love with my King every single day. Before Chuck gave the invitation I asked Jenn (Mayzie) to baptize me, so with tears I got baptized surrounded by my Seussical cast family! =) I cannot take any credit for this; all glory, honor, power, and majesty belongs to Christ Jesus alone. Thank you King for seeing the worst in me and still loving me for who I am and allowing me to live a life of freedom.
Then Tyler, one of the Wickersham brothers got baptized by our producer Tim Roberts.
Later, he baptized a close family member.
Nicole Shelton, playing Gertrude McFuzz, got baptized with the rest of her family.
Another Wickersham got baptized, but I have no pictures.
Then, two set members, the guy playing Vlad Vladecoff and his grandma all got baptized!
I'm happy we didn't have our stage makeup on yet, because I would have cried it all off :)
My point of this blog is, is that although Seussical was an insanely fun musical with unique dancing, vocals, and acting; we all got something bigger from it and it was fellowship. I can't tell you how proud I am of each cast member that went out and got baptized, unashamed and ready to love on the world. I love each cast member, from Who to Horton, and I am blessed beyond belief that I was able to do a show with them.
Seussical went so much farther than a summer experience; it's memories and the friendships made will last a lifetime. Or should I say, an eternity. <3
